If you’re traveling abroad, The Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) is a free service that allows U.S. citizens to enroll their trip with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate. STEP will let you know about safety conditions in your destination country, contact you regarding emergencies such as natural disasters, and help family and friends get in touch with you in an emergency while you are away.
